A while ago I was ranting about Vista being slower than XP in certain situations (according to a PC World comparison). Part of that rant was aimed more at the test itself (Vista vs. XP...who cares--Both are pigs, right?). Well, a very tech-savvy dude named Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols loaded up his recently purchased HP (Vista Ready) PC in a dual-boot with Linux, and is doing a head-to-head comparison in detail of how the 2 are stacking up, from hardware compatibility to music playback and DRM issues. It is an eye-opener, and as a UNIX bigot myself am wondering if a few of the Redmond kool-aid drinkers out there might be a little shaken? Basic software Apps are next in his review, and since you can see the screenshot above showing Vista chewing up a big chunk of processor time and 1/2 a GB of system memory (doing nothing at all but looking pretty), I can't wait to see how much more hungry Vista is when actually doing something. Check out his review for yourself here...
